ANSWERS

I have a fixed blade propeller, how much may I gain with a MAX PROP propeller?

You will gain approxomately a 15% in speed.

The mounting of a MAX PROP propeller model requires specialized staff?

No, absolutely, in particular the new MAX PROP EASY and WHISPER model are shipped already mounted and you just need to tighten the nut and place the zinc anode for the mounting. Please check installation video for better knowledge.

I have a sail drive unit on my boat, can I mount a MAX PROP?

Of course, all of our models are available to suit a sail drive unit and are available both with or without antishock mechanism. Our patented antishock mechanism has been expressively studied to for the sail drive application.

I have an old boat with heavy displacemnet and reduced clearence under the keel, can I install a MAX PROP?

For the large displacemnet vessels it has been stuides on purpose the WHISPER 5 bladed model, which with the same diameter has a larger Blade Area Ratio or, at the same power, requires a smaller propeller diameter.

Which kind of grease shall I use for my MAX PROP?

Marine grease at Lithium basis type "0". If possible we suggest to avoid using grease with Teflon. Please check on our shop on line if you wish to purchase the MAX PROP grease.

How often shall I grease the propeller?

At least one a year. It is possible to grease the prop without dismantelling it, by pumping the grease in the suitable grease plugs on the propeller. The grease holes have been stuided so to fill the prop completely.

What happens if I do not grease the propeller?

If the prop works without grease the compnents will wear out earlier and the propeller will need an overhauling. Without any greasing in the long term the prop also risks to bind it's mechanism.

Can I send to MAX PROP workshop, a propeller which needs overhauling, by courrier ex-works?

Yes but the shipment must be previously agreed with MAX PROP: The cost of the shipment and eventual customs will be then re charged extra with the cost of the overhauling or with the cost of the new èpropeller purchase in case the customer wants to upgrade his prop with the new MAX PROP models.

I mounted the CLASSIC MAX PROP model without matching the numbers on the blades with the number on the spinner, what shall I do?

You need to dismantle the prop and remount the propeller correctly. Please also check the installation video concerning your propeller model.

How can I avoid prop corrosion?

As a normal propeller, using the suitable zinc anode model. If possible we suggest also to place a zinc anode on the propeller shaft. it is always safe to check that there is a good electrolitic contact between the zinc and the bronze, furthermore it is suggested to change the zinc anode/s at least once a year even if apparently they do not seem consumed. Furthermore it is usefull to apply also a antivegetaive and primer on the prop. Please check the MAX PROP shop on line in case you want to purchase spare zinc anodes or specific metal primer and antivegetative.

How can I determine the sense of rotation of my propeller?

If you watch from stern to prow the propeller turns, for the forward gear, clockwise the prop is right handed on the contrary it is left handed.

How can I position the propeller in feathering position?

The propeller shaft must be stopped just for a few seconds whilst the boat is sailing. During this fraction the propeller blades will automatically dispose in a feathering position and the engine shaft will stop turning even if the gear is not engaged.

Shall I check the angle pitch setting of the blades once I mounted the prop on the shaft or shall I make directly the test in the sea?

As advised on the instruction booklet as normal praxis of any technician or shipyard, the boat can be launched only after checking that the angle pitch setting of the blades is the chosen one. It is compulsory to check the value of the blades angle, and it is a very simple operation. No special tool required, just a simple protractor that any technician or shipyard has. Checking the prop angle pitch regulation is a normal procedure operation for any kind of propellers, nothing special which is required for a MAX PROP.

I have a fixed bladed propeller installed on my vessel, why it does not maneuver?

Both the fixed bladed propellers and the folding propellers have been studied to have a good performance in forward, but in backwards, since they work with the wrong profile, they give an evident prop walk, which makes makes maneuverability worse. MAX PROP propellers have flat blades and by rotation of 180° allow to have the same profile both in forward and in backwards granting an excellent maneuverability.

Which are the performance in forward?

Sailing vessels have a critical speed (hull speed) , which is given by the maximum speed allowed by the hull. All MAX PROP optimizing the variable pitch allow to reach the maximum speed.

MAX PROP propellers are variable pitch? Can I mount the prop or just change the pitch on an already mounted propeller in water without hauling the boat?

Yes MAX PROP EASY and WHISPER models are already assembled and can be mounted under water just like a fixed propeller. Furthermore the pitch is variable without no need to dismantle not even the zinc top anode. The regulation screw kit is of 8 screws and allows regulation pitch from 10° to 30°. You may also request or create yourself (working on one of the std. screws supplied) a special custom length of screw which suits the exact pitch you would prefer.
